| On
October 21, 2005 South Florida was ravaged by Hurricane Wilma. Winds
in excess of 125 miles per hours went through our area causing massive
destruction and property damage throughout South Florida. Over 6 million people from West Palm
Beach to the Florida Keys lost electricity, cable TV, telephone
service, and even cell phone service was interrupted. Repairs are
expected to take between 4-8 weeks for partial restoration, and up to
1-2 years for total repairs.
| Last year we
installed a 50,000 watt natural gas/propane generator and our facility
continued operating before, during and after the storm. Our
electricity was out for 6 days, but thanks to our generator, we never
stopped working on orders. |
 |
To give you an idea
just how bad it was, all schools in 5 counties have been closed for 2
weeks, almost every traffic light in 3 counties are down (over 30,000 were destroyed), massive amounts of electrical poles (15,000) fell, and
almost every road has been blocked by fallen trees, power lines, cable
& telephone lines, and debris which is everywhere. The national guard, army and FEMA
have moved into the area to help with the recovery effort. Approximately
70-80 percent of structures sustained damage. Almost all cities and
towns in South Florida have been under a dusk-to-dawn curfew for
almost 2 weeks.
Hurricane
Wilma as it went over our South Florida Headquarters
Because our main
generator worked so well, we were able to lend several of our portable
6,500 - 11,00 watt units to numerous people and businesses. We supplied power to several
houses, kept a woman on a ventilator, and also helped in getting a few
businesses up & running. We also helped getting several gas
stations back online so that people could once again purchase fuel for
cars & generators.
